I want to start my observational rant with one particular thing we need less of: we don’t need summer destination art fair reviews. We just don’t. I don’t need the headline that reads something like “8,000 feet above sea level, the buying was brisk” or whatever ArtNews cooked up in the intern room or “Why the Destination Art Fair Is Here to Stay,” which I took directly from the Observer because no fucking shit rich people rule the world and we bring art to them because its easier for them. Art fairs follow the seasonal flight patterns of private jets. We aren’t dummies. I don’t need a Magid tongue-twisting war of circular speech therapy to know that. Actually, can we stop reviewing fairs? I love writers and I want writers to have jobs but I don’t want writers to feel forced to write good things to get a free ticket to the next thing. I’ve been there, I’ve done it, I felt weird about it, and I think I’ll just review shows and museums now and make summer reading lists and talk about The Odyssey.

So The Odyssey! I have tickets to see it on Monday in IMAX 70mm because I live in Los Angeles and I feel like when you are in Rome or Troy or Sparta or wherever Homer was you do what Romans/Trojans/Greeks/Spartans do. And bless Christopher Nolan for caring this much, for making a film about Greek kings and a myth as old as time itself. Literally, a tale that started tales. And fuck it, Matt Damon isn’t Greek, I’m Greek, but I’m not going to look good at 70mm IMAX now am I? I don’t understand why conservatives and Musk or whoever is so mad about the casting or the historical accuracy of a myth, because that is what it is, a myth, this isn’t complicated. The cast was cast for a Hollywood movie. In IMAX. Like, I am going to eat an extra large popcorn and see a myth brought to life for 2026 with some cool ships and battle scenes. I don’t care that Anne Hathaway isn’t from  that region of the Mediterranean. I don’t think my Greek/Turkish grandfather would care either, and he loved Homer.
