Printmaking is an art form and we wish more artist editions reflected this. Not just recreated an already existing painting as a print edition, but to work with print makers and develop something unique, something that utilizes the depth of the medium.

For their first edition, Mármol&Fa has worked with one of our favorite artists, Julio Anaya Cabanding, on a canvas print, hand-finished by the artist, inspired by and in the ode to Picasso. You can’t go wrong with a little Picasso in the house. Julio works both in the street and the studio, where he recreates masterworks on found objects, unsuspected city walls and throughout installations. He’s one of the best in the game right now if you ask me.

Anaya himself admits to having painted numerous Picassos in his life, but this work is special because it had been huddling in his mind waiting for the moment to be painted. The edition was created from Julio’s original, and each impression has been individually finished by the artist, making them all different and unique.

You can get the print here, which this is the closest we will get to Holiday Gift Guide assistance, so listen to us and get this for someone special in your life. They also have a great video over on their site showing how Anaya manipulated and worked with the print to give it this look… go check it out. —EP

Julio Anaya for Mármol&Fa

Mármol is Alicia Gutiérrez Mármol’s most personal project. After a lifetime connected to contemporary art and cultural management, the idea of Mármol began to take shape naturally and organically—almost as a vital need.
Mármol was born as a space to create small editions with great artists: highly limited, thoughtful, and carefully crafted series with contemporary artists with whom the entire Mármol team connects on a level that goes beyond art and talent.
