The Photographer Who Painted an Era

Ahead of a David Zwirner exhibition drawn from the Studio Museum of Harlem’s 1983 exhibition The Sound I Saw: The Jazz Photographs of Roy DeCarava—which presented a suite of photographs created by DeCarava between the late 1940s and the 1960s—the gallery’s Global Head of Curatorial Projects, Ebony L.
